How to Enter the Water at The Basin
The entry point at The Basin can be a little tricky if you have not been before. From the beach, walk along the rocks in the shallow water on the right side of the bay (heading east) until you reach a small natural drop-off at the reef edge. This is the easiest and safest entry point and puts you immediately over the best snorkelling area. Avoid walking directly on the coral and be careful of sharp limestone edges underfoot. Water shoes are highly recommended.

Lifeguard Patrol
Surf Life Saving WA patrols The Basin on weekends and public holidays between November and January. The only patrolled beach on Rottnest Island during summer. Always swim between the flags.

Newly refurbished outdoor showers are available at The Basin. Rinse off sand and saltwater after your swim before the walk back to the settlement.

Accessible toilets are available at The Basin. Facilities have been recently upgraded as part of the refurbishment of the beach infrastructure.
